Nature Prescription programs and Parks Prescription programs are popping up in communities around the world. (A growing list is available on the Resources page. Please contact us if you know of others.)
These programs help health providers encourage their patients to get active outdoors by
educating and reminding the provider about the benefits of outdoor activity; and
providing a simple resource so the provider can easily "prescribe" an outdoor activity to the patient.
The prescribed activity may be general, or it may be specific in terms of location, activity, frequency and/or duration.
OutLive is working to build on the best practices of these programs to create the OutDoors Rx program, which will be tailored to the oncology providers, partners and resources of Spokane and the Inland NW. While the program will be cancer-focused, it will hopefully be adaptable to other health situations once implemented.
